Young Canada Works position
14 weeks, full time summer position
Start Date: May 22, 2023
Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery, a regional museum, archives, gallery and historical site, in beautiful Nelson, BC seeks a qualified Curatorial & Research Assistant to join our dedicated team. The Assistant, funded by the Young Canada Works program, will gain valuable skills in the museum and gallery sector and will be better equipped to work in any museum, or gallery in BC or Canada.
The Assistant will support the work of Arin Fay, Curator at the Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery, in the research and development of exhibition projects, publication projects, curatorial development, and exhibition installations.
Job Requirements
1. Meet all Young Canada Works *eligibility requirements.
2. Minimum of one year of post-secondary academic education with a proven interest in art history, critical curatorial studies, anthropology, museums, etc.
3. Good computer skills.
4. Ability to consistently perform delicate and detailed tasks at a high level.
5. Project management and customer service skills an asset.

*YCW Eligibility Requirements:
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
Note: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
• be legally entitled to work in Canada;
• be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (between 15 and 30 years of age for the YCW in Both Official Languages program);
• meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply;
• be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;
• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; and
• not have another full-time job during the YCW work assignment.
Students in an YCW employment program must also:
• have registered as a high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
• intend to return to studies during or after the YCW work assignment.
