Thea Galang

Magandang araw sa lahat! My name is Thea Galang, a Queer FilipinX artist born in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines, and currently based in Calgary (Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory). I am a fourth-year Sculpture student at the Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts), and my artistic practice explores relational identity through participation, sensory experience, and performance-based work. Grounded in Virgilio G. Enriquez’s concept of Kapwa and shared selfhood, alongside Homi K. Bhabha’s idea of the Third Space, I examine diasporic experience through food, cooking, humour, tactility, and care.

I am currently the Co-Founder of Hawak Kamay, a Filipino arts collective that emerged from the Alberta University of the Arts student community. Since its formation, the collective has collaborated with several local FilipinX organizations across Calgary, including Anakbayan Alberta, the Alberta branch of the international Filipino youth and student organization, and Baklabayan, a queer FilipinX-led community organization.

Outside of my work and practice, I enjoy creating acoustic guitar arrangements, writing lyrical compositions, and joyfully moshing within Calgary’s local underground music scene while supporting the artists and communities that shape it. TaLeesha Mahe

Hello all! My name is TaLeesha. I am entering my fourth year as a Glass major at AUArts. My main methodology in life is the Dérive by Guy Debord, which is the 
sum of me adventuring around the AUArts campus and into most departments to learn, or yap to people about anything and everything. 

When I am not adventuring AUArts in my free time I love visiting Calgarys’ galleries to support the AUArts community and to connect more people with even more community voices. My favourite way to relax is at home, with a cup of hot chocolate, a soft blanket, and a good anime playing as background music, as I nap on the couch with my 3 cats. 

I grew up in a small town about eight hours Northwest of Calgary. In that time, I understood the importance of a building a strong community that is safe for all to be a part of. Transparency is key to communication, that is what I have learned here at AUArts. Communication is just miscommunication, but at least a voice is being heard, and clarity is to come.

Enzo Amogan

Hello! My name is Enzo and I'll be your Vice President External for the coming year. I'm entering my final year at AUArts to complete a painting major/animation minor. In my practice I try to embody the belief that all art is multifaceted, and all artists are multidisciplinary. My artistic background encompasses sculpture, painting, and animation, with a recent exploration in painting/animating with rust on metal.

Relevant work experience I have includes a half decade background in security and guest ambassador work. As an aside I have also been a student athlete in martial arts during this undergrad.

My priority for the student body is to make sure their concerns are heard at every level. AUArts is a small community but we have a unique perspective as an exclusively creative community within the larger Albertan post secondary populace. As an ASEC Board of Directors member I want to hear what students have to say, especially during such a tenuous time for post secondary education.

We at AUArts SA can't do our jobs without understanding the needs and worries of students. Any concern or complaint can be a catalyst for change and support within our community, so don't be afraid to reach out.

Evan Palmer

Hi everyone, my name is Evan and I’m the Vice President of Student Life for the 2025/2026 academic year! My concentration is drawing and glass, although I enjoy making digital artwork in my free time inspired by different design practices like character design, illustration, and storyboarding.   

I’ve previously worked within our school and have familiarized myself with student life and events through this exposure. During my term at the Students Association, my goal is to continue past events that prioritize healthy habits and wellbeing on campus. As someone who’s neurodivergent, I understand that it can be difficult to meet new people and make friends on campus, and aim to create events that prioritize accessibility and inclusion for students. I look forward to gaining valuable feedback and knowledge from the student body and offering opportunities that encourage healthy habits and occasions for connection!
