BARRIER BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

Calling all artistic volunteers! Do you have a passion for art and helping the community? Are you looking for ways to develop your portfolio? The Salvation Army has a very exciting volunteer opportunity for a few local artists!

PROJECT SCOPE

The Salvation Army invites artists and designers to envision the surface of ordinary jersey barriers as canvases for art. All interested artists are eligible to submit their designs to Volunteer Services. Volunteers can apply as an individual or as a team.

The jerseys are approximately 6’ wide and 3’ tall. Selected artists shall accomplish the following tasks: β€’ Complete one final design; β€’ Translate design (stenciling or hand drawing) onto barrier; and β€’ Paint onto the barrier.

DESIGN CONSIDERATION

All submitted conceptual designs shall:

β€’ Consider the uneven surface condition of the jersey barriers;

β€’ Consider the function of a jersey barrier as a protective divider within the public realm;

β€’ Consist of a simple, bold pattern that can be painted over a few days; and

β€’ Be unique, original, and not infringe upon any copyright or the rights of any person.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Salvation Army shall review all submissions based on the following criteria;

β€’ Proposed design is aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for The Salvation Army’s vision and the public realm; and

β€’ Artwork demonstrates proficiency in design. Please note volunteers will be responsible for providing their own art materials.

The Salvation Army will provide the appropriate paint.
