Emerging Art Writers Program 2

The Emerging Art Writers Program (EAWP) is an art writing program organized through the Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG) and facilitated by Dr. Mark Clintberg. EAWP is a non-credit series of writing workshops, led by Clintberg and guest mentors. The program is open to current AUArts students with up to 9 being accepted into the program annually. Upon completion of the program, each of the participants produce a final piece of writing to be published in a printed catalogue.

EMERGING ART WRITERS PROGRAM 2

The Emerging Art Writers Program will take place via MSTeams between February and May 2021. The program launches on January 13 with a seminar by Dr. Mark Clintberg titled, Write Through This: Writing for Contemporary Art Markets. The seminar will cover topics such as freelance art writing, contracts, communicating with editors, copyediting, financial management and more. This seminar is open to AUArts students as well as the general public, however applications to the program are limited to AUArts students in any year or area of study. More information about applying to the program will be provided during this event or can be found below.
EAWP will be split into two streams this year:Art Criticism with Amy FungEditorial with Shauna Thompson.

TO APPLY FOR THE EMERGING ART WRITERS PROGRAM 2

Please submit:

  • letter of interest

  • stream you are interested in: Curatorial or art criticism (if interested in both, please indicate your preference)

  • confirm availability and commitment to program (4-5 meetings will be held on Wednesday afternoons throughout the Winter semester. All sessions are mandatory)

FEES

Those accepted into the program will be paid professional writing fees of .50/word for a final piece up to 1000 words. Participants will also be paid a small honorarium for attending all sessions and reviewing their peers work.
