Post Content: Our goal is to find a support worker to assist in home and community daily living, furthering the clients growth in independence.
Job Responsibilities:
-Supervising the client when they are making their meals and helping them when assistance is required ie. using a large knife to cut veggies, or straining hot water.
-This client is Hard of Hearing and they use lip reading and sign language (ASL) along with speech. It is extremely important that anyone applying to this job speaks English. The client can use sign language (ASL) but uses lip reading and speech as their first choice. If you have ASL that would be a bonus but again not necessary.
-Guiding and supporting them through their daily living routine.
-Making sure when in the community the environment is safe and accommodating to their needs such as, this client has a prosthetic leg so they cannot go on long walks and cannot walk up a large amount of stairs.
-Providing emotional support by listening to their thoughts, problems, and helping them understand their feelings.
-This client has autism and they may need extra time to get out their thoughts and feelings when communicating, it is very important to have compassion and patience through your communication with the client.
-Driving the client to and from appointments if necessary. Staying with them through their appointments and helping them along the way. This requires you to have a license, registration, insurance (one million dollar liability), and vehicle.
-Looking for programs or courses with the client that they may be interested in.
-After finding activities or courses they may be interested in, planning out with them what it would look like and creating a schedule.
-Planning fun activities such as crafts, photography, walks, mini golf, movies, and so on.
Requirements:
-A police check is required.
-CPR is required.
-A valid license, registration, insurance (one million dollar liability), and vehicle is required.
-You must be able to lift, push, pull, and support 50 pounds.
-References are required.
Job Type: Part-time
Salary: $22.14 per hour
Schedule: 8 hour shifts, Day shift, Weekend shifts, and on call.
Work Location: In person, NW Calgary, AB.
