Outdoor School Staff at Camp Chief Hector (Various Positions):
· Outdoor Schools Counsellor (5 days/week) - Date: May 2 to June 17, 2022, Wage: $950-$1200/semi-monthly, Population & Location: Ages 7-16 and weekend groups @ Main-site/Kananaskis Country

· Schools and Programs Support - Date: April 30 to June 17, 2022, Wage: $1200-$1300/semi-monthly, Population & Location: Ages 7-16 and weekend groups @ Main-site/Kananaskis Country - supervisor role

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;
· Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within activity-based programs;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Canoe Paddle Instructor certificates and Wilderness First Aid certificates are mandatory for some positions, we do offer these courses on site;
· Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR recertified within the last 12 months);
· Proof of COVID-19 vaccination as per YMCA Calgary mandatory vaccination policy;
· Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search;
· Three professional references required.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

All Outdoor Schools Counsellors will:
· Work as part of a collaborative team to support all campers and fellow staff;
· Ensure the delivery of excellent service by identifying and responding in a professional and timely manner to the needs and wants of children and parents/guardians;
· Be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group;
· Support group development and create a positive learning environment for all campers;
· Support the planning and facilitation of intentional, developmentally appropriate, play-based learning activities. This includes engagement in active play outside, in both scheduled and creative activities;
· Ensure a safe and clean environment;
· Establish and maintain effective communication standards with stakeholders and professionally represent YMCA Calgary both internally and with the broader community;
· Provide support for YMCA initiatives;
· Facilitate learning of Alberta Based curriculum through Camp Chief Hector’s Outdoor School Programs;
· Live onsite and provide overnight camp supervision of students.

In addition to the above, all Support Team members will:
· Develop a team through training, supervising, and providing feedback, both positive and constructive to each staff member;
· Provide leadership that ensures program quality, and the delivery of excellent service;
· Effectively communicate and act as a liaison between staff and parents/guardians;
· Support group development and creative a positive learning environment for all campers and staff;
· Support the planning and facilitation of intentional, developmentally appropriate, play-based learning activities.
