We’re Hiring! : Photo Doc Days
Calling all photographers + Editors!
Are you a NON-GRADUATING 3rd/4th year Photography major looking for an industry-standard paid opportunity that will help you build your portfolio and connect you with the AUArts community? Then show off your skills at the Students’ Association (SA) sponsored Photo Doc Days (PDD), happening March 15-17, 2024.
We are looking for a core team of two photographers and two editors to join us for PDD, which is our subsidised photo documentation service in room 434. PDD primarily supports students in the Show + Sale program to provide high quality images of artwork for commercial sale but also services the entire student body for anyone looking to document artwork for scholarships, grants, residencies, and more. With SA sponsorship, we can pay our photographers industry-standard rates for their time while giving students financially accessible services. Participating students will be expected to credit the photographer when using their photos.
**** NEW THIS YEAR
Most images will be shot in a “staged” environment, where props and furniture are used to accentuate the artwork. This style of imagery is primarily used for e-commerce and marketing campaigns, and as such requires a critical eye! Due to the technical difficulty of this style of product photography, we recommend applicants complete at least one 300lvl studio or lighting course. The SA will also provide an unpaid training session for the team with an experienced alumni photographer in late February.
Lighting and equipment will be generously provided by the Photo Technician. Both photographers and editors have a crucial role to play during PDD and will learn how to undertake a large assembly line shooting project and edit for consistency on a short turnaround time. As such, applicants should be available all three days with a potential for overtime.
Paid Opportunity
The two Photographers will be given $300/8 hour shooting day each ($900 honoraria for PDD)
The two Editors will be given $300/8 hour editing period each ($900 honoraria for PDD)
