Creative Facilitator (Ceramics Background)
The Position
As a member of the Creative Expressions Team, the Creative Facilitator’s role is to facilitate the creative process for residents, staff, volunteers, students and family within the United communities
Responsibilities
Creative Direction/Expression
At Fish Creek specifically: kiln maintenance and firing, maintain and mix glazes, kiln firing, scraping and washing kiln shelves
General ceramic duties at both locations including: lifting, wedging, clay reclamation, wheel throwing, hand-building, running clay workshops
Make art accessible to residents, staff, volunteers and family by actively engaging everyone in the creative process through art workshops, projects, outings, education, etc.
Facilitate the creative process in the art studio and throughout the community, this may include art coaching, providing assistance for expressive art and outings.
Create an environment that engages and supports a variety of ability levels and interests.
Maintain a safe environment by cleaning, sanitizing and organizing the art studio and art equipment.
Maintain art supply stock in the studio, within the given budget.
Facilitate events including outings, in-house programming, resident projects and collaborative workshops.
Install artwork in and outside of the community (i.e. off-site exhibitions).
Document artwork, including photo documentation.
Photograph Creative Expression activities, events, etc.
Quality Assurance
Participate in Quality Assurance reviews for the creative expression department and the community as a whole.
Other Duties
Participates in monthly team meetings to brainstorm monthly themes and future workshops/programming/outings
Take photos of programs and events to share on social media
Facilitates the welcoming and thanking of our guest speakers and performers
Assist other creative expression staff in the organization of seating and set up for special events (including evenings and weekends).
Respond and act appropriately in an emergency or disaster situation.
Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process
Assist with new residents by following the set protocol to gather social history and to introduce and explain the Creative Expression concept and opportunities, including follow up.
Demonstrate safe practice for self, including back care.
Liaise with United Minds to develop art programming specific to people with dementia.
Works as a team member to maintain a work environment that is consistent with the United Vision, Mission and People Philosophies.
Facilitating outings
Covering breaks at our Concierge desks
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Post-Secondary degree in Fine Arts (B.F.A) or related disciplines, professional experience.
Active studio practice
Must understand a variety of art mediums
Must possess strong interpersonal relations skills
Must have strong computer skills.
Must have proven facilitation skills.
Must have effective time management skills.
Experience working with older adults, and people with cognitive impairment considered an asset
Knowledge of the local art scene
Ability to discuss and critique art and art history is an asset
Basic wood working skills is an asset
Experience with social media, websites, etc. is an asset
Experience with Photoshop (or equivalent software) is an asset
