Marion Nicoll Gallery (MNG) Assistant
The MNG Assistant supports in the exhibitions and programming of the Marion Nicoll Gallery (MNG). The MNG focuses on the mentorship of current AUArts students as emerging artists through supporting the development and installation of artist exhibitions in both our Main space and LRT gallery space.

Includes being a part of the selection committee processes, aiding in the installation of shows and general maintenance of the gallery, and planning and attending receptions alongside the coordinator.

Employment Type:
The role is an annual part-time, hourly contract with the possibility of extension.
Up to 10 hrs/wk

Contract Length:
Sept 2024 – May 2025.

Hourly Pay Range:
The pay rate $17.00 / hr

Reports to
Marion Nicoll Gallery Coordinator and Programs Director

Core Objectives

·      Assist in prepping the submissions for review.

·      Assist in the Selection Committee process.

·      Assist with installations and tear downs.

·      Ensure maintenance of gallery space.

·      Assist with set up + cleanup for receptions

·      Assist with basic programming and events planning.

·      Assist with the facilitation of workshops / artist talks.

·      Option to assist with other AUArts SA events such as Show + Sale, Orientation Community Fair, Brunch, etc.

Who You Are
We are looking for a current AUArts student returning for the 2024/25 academic year with an interest in developing technical skills and gallery programming. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team, have some experience in a gallery setting, and possess a passion for sharing knowledge and skills to foster a community of artists and makers.

Qualifications and Skills

·      Some experience in working with art galleries or artist run centers. 

·      Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·      Strong time management skills. 

·      Experience in working with tools (hammer, drill, etc.)

·      Experience in the woodshop and metal shop considered an asset.

·      Experience with digital media (projection, audio, etc.) considered an asset.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

·      Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities. 

·      Current student at Alberta University of the Arts

o   Though not required - It is recommended that you be enrolled in 3 or fewer classes.
