AUArts is looking for organized and reliable Summer Camp Assistants to support the School of Continuing Education & Professional Development (SCEPD) at the Alberta University of the Arts starting June 19, 2023.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Dean, Innovation, Learning & Development, Summer Camp Assistant will work in conjunction with the Program Developer to help oversee, organize, and coordinate the implementation of our weeklong Summer Camp programs.

Summer Camp Assistants will work in cooperation to help oversee, organize, and coordinate the execution of summer programs for children and teenagers, as well as provide assistance to the Pre-College Program. You will be the first point of contact for parents and children while being responsible for daily check-ins and check-outs, breaks and lunch supervision of children and teens. You will help oversee the coordination of indoor and outdoor recreational activities, while helping to curate and install student work at the end of each week. You will chaperone and accompany students on various field trips and provide camp instructors support, as needed.

The successful candidate(s) will have:

β€’ Active post-secondary student.
β€’ Strong verbal communication & teamwork skills
β€’ Organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills
β€’ Excellent customer service & support skills
β€’ Interest with working with children & teenagers
β€’ Engaging, fun, creative and motivated to provide a great experience
β€’ First Aid certification is an asset
β€’ Experience and interest in 2D & 3D art disciplines
β€’ Knowledge and experience with art processes in the following areas is an asset:
o Sewing / garment construction
o Ceramics
o Animation / cartooning
o Drawing
o Photography
o Painting

What this role will look like:

β€’ Provide a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for children from 9 – 12 and teenagers from 13 – 16
β€’ Provide non-instructional supervision of children throughout the camp
β€’ Greet parents and campers on arrival and departure from camp
β€’ Organize and assist with hanging camper work for end of week exhibition
β€’ Provide extra assistance as needed
β€’ Demonstrate a positive attitude, while being a role model for campers

Summer Camp Assistants will embody AUArts values of creativity and community.

This Casual position pays an hourly rate of $17.73 plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation. These positions are full time over the course of July & August. Working approximately 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Summer Camp Facilitator

The Opportunity

As part of AUArts Con Ed team, Summer Camp Facilitators will gain valuable teamwork, organization, communication, and customer service skills. Students will be involved in summer camp programming with children + teens, giving them the opportunity to experience the benefits of arts-based education. They will be responsible for coordinating indoor + outdoor recreational activities and assist with curating and installing student work (weekly) which can be directly applied to their professional + academic artistic undertakings.

The successful candidate(s) will have:

β€’ Active AUArts student
β€’ Experience in leadership, management, and supervision
β€’ Strong verbal communication & teamwork skills
β€’ Organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills
β€’ Excellent customer service & support skills
β€’ Experience performing administrative duties
β€’ Interest with working with children & teenagers
β€’ Engaging, fun, creative and motivated to provide a great experience
β€’ First Aid Certification is considered an asset
β€’ Experience and interest in 2D & 3D art disciplines
β€’ Knowledge and expertise in certain areas including:
o Sewing / garment construction
o Ceramics
o Animation / cartooning
o Drawing
o Photography
o Painting

β€’ Provide instructional delivery of studio-based content to children throughout the camp
β€’ Coordinate and lead both indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
β€’ Organize daily logistics of camps
β€’ Curate and install camper work for end of week exhibition
β€’ Demonstrate a positive attitude, while being a role model for campers

*Employment is based on reaching minimum enrolment numbers for each camp.
