Venue Support Staff role encompasses duties that include facility open and securing, event set
up, event supervision, custodian duties related to the operations of the facility, and basic
troubleshooting of AV systems within a dynamic multi-tenant, multi-use arts facility and event
venue.

who will bring a welcoming disposition to the cSPACE King Edward arts hub, and collaborate
with our team to support our community building ambitions.

cSPACE King Edward is our flagship project, a multi-disciplinary arts and community hub in the
community of South Calgary. The 47,000 sq.ft. multi-tenant facility is home to small and
medium-sized non-profit organizations active in the arts and community sectors as tenants,
each with their own staff, members, audiences and constituents. Artists also reside as tenants
within the facility creating in disciplines such as photography, filmmaking, illustration/graphic
design, painting, print-making, jewellery, mixed-media, fashion, costume-making, and sculpture.
A co-working space provides short-term flexible space for members who use shared desks on a monthly and daily basis.

In addition to supporting these varied tenant uses, cSPACE King Edward includes highly
adaptable event, performance, rehearsal, and meeting spaces. A Studio Theatre supports
bookings for theatre, music, cinema and dance presentation or rehearsal and event uses. Public
art in common areas and exhibition spaces throughout the facility and grounds provide spaces
for artistic events to occur while supporting a vibrant place for the community to gather.

POSITION SUMMARY

with our team to support our community building ambitions.

Reporting to the Theatre and Facility Manager, the Venue Support Staff (VSS) role is integral to
the success of events and evening/weekend operations at cSPACE King Edward. Venue Support Staff shift lengths will vary depending on the nature of the evening and weekend event schedule. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to on-site client support, event furniture set up/tear down, grounds maintenance, as well as custodian duties of event/public space, washrooms, storage area and kitchen as required. Basic troubleshooting of audio visual gear will be required on occasion.

RENUMERATION
This is a part-time, staff position with an intended start date of December 2021.
Compensation will be $19.20/h our inclusive of general holiday pay in accordance with the
Employment Standards Code of Alberta and is commensurate with experience. Regular hours of work will typically occur during general facility hours of 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday but may be variable and subject to the demands of our building operations and/or event activity. 10-15 hours a week is anticipated to be typical of this role, with weekly schedule determined based on the needs of cSPACE events.

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Opens and secures facilities before and after events or general operations
● With direction from Management, the VSS follows event layout instructions (provided
digitally and in-person) to ensure a timely and correct set up and tear down of event
furniture and space configuration
● Assists with event duties such as: rearranging furniture at the client’s request and
performing basic custodian duties of event/public space, washrooms, storage area and
kitchen, including cleaning, clearing and ensuring a tidy event space is left post-event as
required.
● Informs clients, tenants, caterers and vendors of venue policies and procedures
● Ensure garbage is disposed of properly post-event, and that clients, tenants, vendors
and caterers all adhere to the event policies of the facility
● Systematically completes and reviews operational service checklists and reporting any
irregularities to the Theatre and Facility Manager
● Regularly reports to the Theatre and Facility Manager after each event identifying any
incidents, risks and opportunities encountered
● Contact Theatre and Facility Manager in the event of an emergency

QUALIFICATIONS
● A positive and professional personal presentation – client service oriented
● High integrity and ability to inspire trust
● Reliability and punctuality
● Basic computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., and stand on feet for extended periods of time
● Time management, office administration and organizational skills
● Basic knowledge of AV systems is an asset
● Current First Aid/AED certification is an asset
