Post Content: Tansi, we are looking for a female Cree or Metis artist to illustrate a children’s book about the first Indigenous woman to join the Canadian Armed Forces. Mary Grey Eyes was born on a Cree First Nation but was kidnapped at the age of six and put in residential school. The resilience her grandmother taught her helped Mary cope with a difficult childhood and later on, with the rigours of army life. Mary’s story is retold by her niece, Dierdre, who wants to inspire six to twelve year olds with Mary’s story.
Sparrow House Collective will pay $300 for the book’s cover art and $100 for each of the 22 interior illustrations and the artist may choose the medium she is most comfortable with. If you are interested in this project please contact us at - jehooge@shaw.ca
