Position: Assistant Archivist (YCW-BCH) Closing date: 14th October 2024 This position is dependent on funding from the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works in Heritage Program, administered by the Canadian Council of Archives. Thus, the successful candidate must meet the following criteria: legally entitled to work in Canada, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada, be between the ages of 16 and 30, Graduated from a post secondary institution in the last 24 months.
Overall responsibility: To catalogue a large archival fonds of photographs, and documents, as well as other related projects under the guidance of the Head Archivist & Executive Director.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Arrangement and description of a large archival collection
- Cataloguing using our online database (ICA-AtoM) using the Rules of Archival Description (RAD)
- Re-housing photographs and other materials into archival-safe housing.
Terms of employment:
$21.50/hr for 40 hrs/week - 6 month position
October 2024 to March 2025.
(There can be some flexibility with the start date as long as the candidate can complete 20 weeks before March 31, 2025.)
Location:
Whistler, BC.
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities
- Minimum 4 years of post-secondary education. Graduated within the last 2 years.
- Interest in history and/or museum studies - Internally motivated and demonstrates initiative
- Reliable and professional work standards
- Excellent attention to detail
- Customer service skills
Works cooperatively with others and is flexible
- Computer literate
The following would be an asset but is not essential:
- Experience with museum and/or archive principles, materials, methods and practices
- Knowledge of RAD
- Knowledge of Mac-OS, Filemaker Pro and Adobe Photoshop
