Hawak Kamay is an art collective at AUArts that is focused on providing a space for Filipino artists to showcase their work. As a fairly new collective, we are striving to provide more support for artists of Filipino descent, as well as creating a positive community for our artists to be a part of. Hawak Kamay Collective is a student-led group meant to uplift all Filipino/x/a identifying creatives within the institution of AUArts. Hawak Kamay, meaning “holding hands” in Tagalog, one of the many dialects spoken in the Philippines, signifies the community, support and connections we intend to create with the Filipino artists of all years through our club. We have been able to provide opportunities for our artists within and outside our institution and wish to continue to provide resources and support for their projects and pieces that will be a part of our galleries and future events.
