Post Content: This position is partially funded through government student and youth grants and will be full time (~35-40 hrs/week) for ~14-15 weeks.
The anticipated start date of this position is May 19, 2025, but this is flexible. Work will take place primarily at the Bodo Archaeological Centre (1 St E. Railway Ave, Bodo, AB). The interpretive centre is open Tuesday to Sunday through the summer. This position will require some weekend work (we try to take turns working on weekends), and the occasional evening. Mondays are almost always days off, unless a special event is occurring.
We do require you to provide proof of a valid and up to date First Aid certificate, a criminal record check for youth, and a Class 4 Driverโs License is an asset.
Position Responsibilities
Museum interpretation: guide visitors through the Bodo Archaeological Centre and Site
Implementation of educational programs to the public: oversee kids days camps, assist with tours, provide day-to-day tourism support, drive tourists in a van to and from the archaeological site
Operational tasks: includes (but not limited to) maintaining center cleanliness, assisting in the gift shop, responding to inquiries, recording and managing tour/program bookings, and maintaining interpretive displays
Archaeological fieldwork: survey and excavation at the Bodo Archaeological Site, as well as assisting the archaeologist with other everyday activities including the supervision of public participants (archaeological training provided as needed)
Archaeological lab work: organizing and cataloguing large amounts of lithic, ceramic, and faunal artifacts.
Position Qualifications
Due to funding, these positions require that you be a Canadian citizen, and that you have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the job and intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following
Experience and enthusiasm working with the public, especially children, in an interpretive and educational capacity
Excellent leadership, communication and teamwork skills Enthusiasm, patience, creativity, initiative, and flexibility is a must
It would be an asset to possess an Alberta Class 4 Driver's License (or equivalent to drive a bus with up to 25 passengers) prior to the job commencement date with the ability to provide an adequate driverโs abstract
Undergo a criminal record check; have valid first aid and CPR training Basic computer, internet and AV skills are necessary
