Reports to: Executive Director
Schedule: : 30 hour per week employment contract running Dec. 1, 2020 - March 31, 2021 

Pay: : $18/hour, less applicable taxes. 

The Media Arts Intern will work closely with The Calgary Queer Arts (CQAS) Marketing Director and wider team to create compelling visual film and animated content, and assist with the technical and administrative coordination of our year-round film and arts programming. 

Funded by the Young Canada Works Internship Program, the successful candidate will meet the program requirements and have a background in film, animation and media arts. 

Job Profile 

● Work with the Marketing Director to create animation and video content that promotes CQAS programming. 
● Complete downloads/uploads of films and content into Xerb.tv platform for online screenings and events. 
● Film and edit 2021 Fairy Tales Queer Film Festival launch announcement and related content. 
● Build Festival daily trailers and other Festival marketing pieces. 
● Complete closed captioning on films and shorts selected for screening at Fairy Tales Film Festival. 
● Work with the Marketing Director to support social media posts and festival promotional materials and events. 

● Oversee discussion engagement and monitor digital chats during events 
● Archive documentation of events where possible. 
● Work with the Marketing Director to support the development of additional visual assets for OutReels and the Ally ToolKit Conference. 
● Other Technical Support as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works Program. Candidates must satisfy the following conditions to be eligible; 
● Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible); 
● Are legally entitled to work in Canada; 
● Are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; 
● Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment; 
● Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program; 
● Are unemployed or underemployed; 
● Are a college or university graduate; 
● Are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program; and 
● Have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. Additional requirements include; 
● Post-secondary degree in animation, film, media arts or a related discipline. 
● Animation skills are a requirement. 
● Ability to work remotely, with access to necessary home office equipment a requirement, including a desktop or laptop computer capable of running Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects with a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, and processing CPU of Intel 6th generation or higher. A 32-bit video card GPU, and at least 200 GB of free hard drive space (either internal or as an external hard drive), will all be required to meet video editing assignments. 
● Previous work or volunteer experience in the film industry, animation, or artist run centres considered an asset. 
● Knowledge of, and lived experience in LGBTQ2S+ communities. 
● Excellent time management skills. 
● Must be able to start in early December, 2020.
