Contemporary Calgary is excited to announce the creation of a new position in our organization, the TD Educational Coordinator. Funded by a generous contribution from TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment, this new position will help grow Contemporary Calgary’s educational programming while tangibly advancing our efforts to be welcoming, inclusive, engaging and relevant. This position is a tremendous opportunity for both Contemporary Calgary and the chosen candidate, offering the chance to dramatically expand our current and future educational programming while building the candidate’s career.

About this Position

This position is funded by the TD Bank Group through the TD Ready Commitment and seeks to support an early-career educator who is Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour (BIPOC). “Earlycareer” means within the first five years following graduation from a relevant program. Because this position involves working with children, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search or share a recently completed PIC with Vulnerable Sector Search (completed in the last six months). Any offer of employment will be contingent on the outcome of the PIC. The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of current first aid training or undertake training in the first 30 days of the job.

Job Description

With the support of the Curatorial Department, the Educational Coordinator will research and
develop an educational programming framework based on Contemporary Calgary's exhibitions, public programs and artistic vision. The Coordinator will create inclusive, age-appropriate artsfocused learning programs and activities that will be delivered in the gallery at no cost to participants. The Coordinator will assist in program delivery and supervise program facilitators.

The Educational Coordinator will:

• work with the curatorial team to develop a thorough understanding of the concepts and themes explored in Contemporary Calgary's upcoming exhibitions, public programs, and artistic vision

• use their knowledge of age-appropriate learning outcomes to design arts-based programming that compliments Contemporary Calgary's artistic direction and connects to the Alberta Learning Curriculum

• research current contemporary arts education discourse and direction, and assess for implementation in our own program

• build meaningful, long-term relationships and networks with a range of communities in order to understand and meet their needs for educational arts programming and promote their participation in our programs

• provide leadership in the development of a short/long term arts education strategy that complements the overall organizational goals and visions at Contemporary Calgary

• develop strong lines of regular communication with Contemporary Calgary staff, as well as with key stakeholders (schools, teachers, parents, organizations, etc.)

• reduce barriers to access

• coordinate and schedule all youth programming

• procure art supplies required for youth programming

• deliver programming with assistance from the educational facilitators and fill-in for facilitators when required

• thoroughly train and supervise educational facilitators in program delivery

• manage volunteers who provide program support

• regularly evaluate educational programming and make adjustments as required

• track program attendance and outcomes

• develop clear outcomes, policies, procedures, and guidelines that support the success of
Contemporary Calgary’s educational programming. This includes research and implementation of best practices for operating safe, inclusive, informative and appropriate programs

• be an ambassador for Contemporary Calgary and its programs

• undertake other relevant duties as required

The ideal candidate:

• graduated from a recognized degree-granting educational program within the past five years
• is Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour
• is passionate about the arts and is excited to share that passion with children ages 5 to 18
• has previous experience working with children and delivering programming to youth
• is willing to work on weekends and evenings as required
• is creative, innovative, and enthusiastic
• is kind, patient, open-minded and empathetic
• works independently but will ask for assistance as needed
• has excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• is fastidious about record keeping and adhering to safety rules
• is dependable, punctual, and flexible
• has the ability to travel within Calgary and provide their own transportation (preferred but not required)
